Quantif
Quantif is a font family built around function. It blurs the line between humanist and geometric sans. Every decision in its design came from a single curiosity: how to balance simple geometry with practicality. The answer shows in the open terminals and counters, the angled joints, and the overall economy of form.
My references ranged widely. Futura anchored the geometric end, with its quintessential reduction of letters to circle and line; Frutiger grounded the functional one. FF Balance, Avenir, and Gill Sans rounded out the pool—I studied what makes each one distinct, and how those distinguishing features translate across the weights of a family.
The family has quirks I didn't fully anticipate at the start: as Quantif gets heavier, its humanist, “friendlier” side comes forward. The Regular, Light, and Thin weights read as more rational and neutral. That shift is part of what I think of as the family’s investigation into hyper-functionality, and it’s what lets Quantif work across a wide range of identities.
I started Quantif in the fall of 2021, around the time my maturity as a designer began an upswing. In a sense, the family traces the progression of my sensibilities and skill—both of which have come a long way since.
